Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?+
No. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser and your file is never sent anywhere.
Is my original file deleted?+
No. Your original stays untouched — you download a new converted file.
What about archiving in high quality?+
Keep the WAV as your archive copy, and convert to MP3 only for devices and sharing.
How much quality do I lose converting WAV to MP3?+
At 192kbps and above it is hard to tell from the original in normal listening. The reduction is permanent, though, so keep the WAV original if there is any chance of further editing.
Is there a file size limit?+
No server limits. Typical music files are effortless, and desktops handle files up to hundreds of MB.
Is it really free?+
Yes. No sign-up, no payment, no conversion limits and no watermark.
Can I pick a different output format?+
Yes — on the converter you can switch the output between MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A and OGG.
Guide
Why convert WAV to MP3?
WAV sounds perfect but the files are huge — too heavy for phones, car stereos, MP3 players or messengers. Converting to MP3 shrinks them by 80–90% while staying playable virtually everywhere.
It's the go-to conversion for distributing recordings exported from audio gear or editing software.
Where do WAV files come from?
WAV is uncompressed, original audio. Recording hardware and audio editors save working files as WAV, and tracks ripped from CDs and Windows system sounds are WAV too.
With no compression there is no quality loss — and no size discipline. CD-quality stereo runs about 10MB per minute, so a three-minute track is around 30MB. That is why finished files get moved to MP3 for sharing and storage.
What happens to quality and size?
MP3 is lossy, but at 192kbps and above most listeners can't tell it from the original. This tool converts at a generous bitrate by default, and you can go up to 320kbps.
The size drop is dramatic: a 3-minute WAV file over 30MB becomes 4–5MB as 192kbps MP3.
